Semper Fi Brother & Sisters;

Today marks the 36th anniversary of the Bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. The attack on Oct 23rd , 1983 killed 241 American service men (200 Marines, 16 Navy personal and 3 Army soldiers.

This was the deadliest single day death toll for the Marines since the WWll battle of Iwo Jima, also since the 1968 Tet offensive in Vietnam. This date changed the way all look at the world. Rest in peace brothers.

Question:  Why do Marines celebrate their Birthday?

Answer:  It represents where the Marine Corps started and where it is now, while giving us a glimpse of the past, present and future. Throughout the world on 10 Nov, Marines celebrate the Birth of their Corps – The most loyal, feared, revered and professional Fighting force the world has ever known.

Please mark your calendars:

  1. Nov 9th a celebration of the Marine Corps birthday will be held at the Oasis. Get your tickets at the Marine Reserve center $60.00 each person. Come join us. The Marine Corps will be 244 years old this year.
  2. Our detachment will celebrate the Birthday on Nov 14th at 1800 at the 3404 VFW our monthly meeting. Come and bring your family.
  3. On Dec 12th we will be having our annual family Christmas party for our monthly meeting.  Bring your family for Christmas cheer.
